"The Phantom of the Opera" is a 1925 American silent Horror film written by
Elliott J. Clawson and Raymond L. Schrock (among others) and directed by
Rupert Julian (among others) for Universal Pictures. Starring the iconic Lon
Chaney, the film is an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Gaston
Leroux. It is considered “culturally, historically, and aesthetically
significant” by the US Library of Congress and has been selected for
preservation in the National Film Registry.
Synopsis.
Deep within the Paris Opera House, a disfigured musical genius named Erik uses
blackmail and terror to propel the career of young Christine Daaé, with whom
he is obsessed.
