SCREAM: THE SERIES. Brandon James' original mask.

Loved by many and hated by others, “Scream: The Series” introduced a new and more unsettling design for the masks worn by the new killers in the story starring Emma Duval and Brandon James. However, a more original design, resembling a scarecrow’s mask, was originally planned.

The scarecrow design.

The story goes that around 18 designs were considered for the mask worn by the assassin duo Piper Shaw and Kieran Wilcox in the MTV series. Of these, the one ultimately chosen was very similar to the final version, but with a fabric finish that closely resembled that of a scarecrow’s mask.

Discarded.

It is known that the pilot episode was filmed using that design, which can even be seen briefly in a couple of shots in the episode (later digitally removed), as well as in a couple of scenes that were ultimately cut from the final product. However, the producers weren’t convinced by that design and ended up replacing it with the one we all know; which, in their own words, “is a combination of the Ghostface mask and Michael Myers.”

"Scream (TV Series)". First 8 Minutes (with digital mask correction).
