Considered by many to be the best segment of the original "V/H/S", "Amateur Night" featured a group of twenty-somethings attempting to film a homemade porno, who unfortunately end up being attacked and killed by a succubus. An innovative idea that utilized an interesting technique to film its shocking ending.
The chilling conclusion.
In "Amateur Night", after a failed attempt to film an orgy with a strange girl named Lily, she reveals herself to be a bloodthirsty succubus and attacks the group of friends. Clint, who films everything with his glasses, flees, but trips while running down the motel stairs and breaks his wrist. As he lies on the ground writhing in pain, Lily appears and, after telling him once again that she likes him, attempts to perform fellatio on him. However, upon seeing that Clint does not respond, Lily, believing he has rejected her, crawls away and bursts into tears. Then, she growls in rage, which prompts Clint to get up and run away. When he tries to ask a group of bystanders for help, Lily, now completely transformed and with wings, grabs him and lifts him into the air. The glasses fall, and the recording ends.
The practical effect.
To achieve the impressive mid-air abduction sequence, the film crew behind the segment, led by David Bruckner, chose to use several helium-filled balloons attached to a lightweight container with the camera secured to it.
To show the protagonist, Clint, being kidnapped by the succubus, Lily, while in mid-flight, a green screen was used and footage of the two actors was superimposed, resulting in the chilling final shot.
