“Useless.avi” is an urban legend linked to the famous and disturbing website
normalpornfornormalpeople.com that began circulating in 2011, concerning an
alleged video of a chimpanzee murdering a woman.
"Useless.avi."
I’m sure some of you have heard of the website
normalpornfornormalpeople.com. It was a site that surfaced a few years ago
and was eventually taken down, though sometimes mirror links pop up on
obscure imageboards. The site wasn't actually porn. It was completely
bizarre.
The website had a plain white background with standard black Times New Roman
text. There were no banners, no ads, and no pictures. It was just a list of
hyperlinks, all ending in .avi.
I clicked a few of them just to see what the site was about. The videos were
deeply unsettling, but not in a gory way. One video, simply titled
eating.avi, showed a woman sitting in a chair eating a sandwich for five
minutes straight. She didn't say anything, she just chewed slowly while
staring blankly at the camera. Another video, dog.avi, was just a shot of a
golden retriever sitting in a room. Halfway through, the dog’s ears perked
up, it stared terrified at something off-screen, and then bolted away.
None of it was sexual. It just felt wrong. It felt like I was watching
things that weren't meant for human eyes.
After scrolling through the main list, I noticed a large empty space at the
bottom of the page. On a whim, I highlighted the blank space with my cursor.
Hidden in the white background was a link written in white text.
I clicked it, and it took me to a sub-directory. There was only one file
here, titled useless.avi.
I downloaded it. The video was surprisingly long, about 18 minutes.
It started by showing a dimly lit, dirty room. In the center of the room,
there was a stained mattress on the floor. A young woman was tied down to
the mattress. She was bound tightly with thick ropes and had silver duct
tape over her mouth. For the first few minutes of the video, it’s just her
panicking. She’s thrashing against the ropes, crying, and trying desperately
to scream through the tape.
Around the seven-minute mark, a door in the background opens. A man walks
in. He is wearing a neat black suit, but his face is completely covered by a
strange, featureless mask. He doesn't look at the camera, and he doesn't
approach the woman.
Instead, he just holds the door open.
A few seconds later, an adult chimpanzee walks into the room. But there was
something horribly wrong with the animal. It looked malnourished, covered in
scars, and it had been completely shaved hairless.
The man in the suit steps back out and closes the door, locking the woman
inside with the chimp.
For a moment, the chimpanzee just stands there, sniffing the air. Then, it
notices the frantic woman tied to the mattress. The animal suddenly flies
into a state of absolute, shrieking frenzy.
It lunges at her.
What followed was the most brutal, agonizing thing I have ever witnessed.
The chimpanzee begins to savagely attack the helpless woman, tearing into
her flesh with its teeth and hands. The audio is completely silent, which
somehow makes it worse, but you can clearly see the absolute horror in the
woman's eyes as she is literally torn apart alive by the crazed animal.
The violent attack lasts for about seven excruciating minutes until she
finally stops moving. The last four minutes of the video just consist of the
hairless chimpanzee sitting on the blood-soaked mattress, quietly eating the
remains.
The video ended there. The site went offline a few days later, but I’ve
never been able to get the image of that poor woman, or that scarred,
hairless animal, out of my head.
