“Monster” is a 2005 Australian independent Supernatural Horror short film, written and directed by Jennifer Kent. Running approximately 10 minutes, this short laid the thematic, visual, and psychological groundwork, serving as the conceptual foundation and direct prototype for the acclaimed 2014 film, “The Babadook.”



Synopsis.

A single mother, physically and mentally exhausted by her son's difficult behavior, reaches her breaking point when the boy begins to insist, terrified, that there is a monster lurking in their home.
