Known as the infamous Scene 118, the final act of “Scream 1996” was marked by a series of unfortunate events during filming, one of which involved actor Skeet Ulrich and nearly ended in tragedy.
The sequence.
During the iconic third act of the film, a deranged Billy Loomis searches for Sidney around the house of his murder partner, Stu Macher, when, thanks to the classic closet scene from "Halloween" (1978), he decides to look inside it, only to be surprised by Sidney wearing the Ghostface mask, played by a stunt double, who strikes the actor in the chest with an umbrella.
The accident.
To film this sequence, an umbrella with a retractable tip was used, with actor Skeet Ulrich (Billy) wearing a protective vest under his shirt to help prevent injury while his stunt double attacked him with it. Unfortunately, the second blow missed the vest and stabbed Ulrich in the chest, striking a scar from open-heart surgery the actor had undergone years earlier. Ulrich’s genuine pain was captured on film and used in the theatrical release of “Scream.” Fortunately for Ulrich, the blow had no serious consequences.
